Parent Partnership in Learning – Some useful tools.

Have you had a chance to ask your child about their learning goals?

Unsure about these questions? Checkout the last few newsletters that explain student goals and ‘Bump it up Walls’ or come in and talk to our teachers about them on our Open Night on 6th November.

The following apps and websites are some useful tools to assist you to support your child’s learning at home. They provide some alternative ways to develop literacy that engage children in a supportive manner. Click on the coloured text to access apps and websites.

Learning Potential is a new free app for parents created by the Australian Government. Learning Potential is packed with useful tips and inspiring ways you can be more involved in your child’s learning.

Book Creator for iPad

Book Creator for iPad is an app (application) that enables users to create, read and share multimodal eBooks that combine text, photos, drawings, video and audio. Let your child create a story of a family outing or event that they can share with others.

Play School Art Maker

Play School Art Maker is an iPad app (application) produced by the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation). Students can easily create pictures, animated movies and story slideshows. It enables students to select a play space or a photo to use as a background for the piece of art or movie the student wants to create.

Students can take a still image of their piece of art by touching the camera icon or can film a video by touching the video camera icon. When the recording starts, the students can move objects and characters as if they were puppets. When the 30 second recording time ends or when they stop the recording by touching the video camera icon, the movie is processed quickly and students can view their animated movie.

Comic Maker HD

Comic Maker HD is an iPad app (application) that provides a platform to create your own comics. This app provides image, text and drawing tools which allow you to customise your own comic. You can use your own images or use the graphics provided.

DET Out & About

DET Out & About is an app (application) for students to practise sight words by selecting words and saying them. Additional games and ideas are also available. This app replaces the traditional flash card activity of practising sight words. The Out & About app supports students with ASD (autism spectrum disorder), HI (hearing impairment), II (intellectual impairment), PI (physical impairment) and SLI (speech-language impairment) disability.
